What are CapCut Templates and How Do I Use Them on TikTok?, CapCut templates have become a sensation on TikTok, captivating users with their widespread popularity. Even if you’re unfamiliar with CapCut itself, chances are you’ve come across these templates while browsing through TikTok. Leveraging the power of TikTok’s algorithm, videos incorporating CapCut templates enjoy heightened visibility and tend to spread rapidly across the platform. These templates offer a simple yet enjoyable method for creating engaging content that can potentially amplify your presence on TikTok. In this guide, I will provide you with a comprehensive overview of CapCut templates, their significance, and practical instructions on utilizing them effectively on TikTok.

What is CapCut and what are CapCut templates?

CapCut is a separate app from TikTok; it’s free and is owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance. As of March 2023, Capcut boasted over 200 million monthly active users. You’ll want to download CapCut ASAP if you want to experiment with these templates!

CapCut templates are essentially a new generation of memes. Often you’ll see characters from pop culture superimposed over a photo or video, with text on top and an audio to match the superimposed clip. For example, you can make the character Michael Scott from The Office pop up over your own image and include audio of him saying “this is the WORST.” These entertaining templates are available in the CapCut app, so anyone can easily use them to create their own riffs on the original joke. There are other types of CapCut templates for transitions, photo layering, specific songs, and more, but this blog post will primarily focus on the more meme-like CapCut templates that are so popular on TikTok.

Why should I use CapCut templates?

Numerous TikTok creators, myself included, have observed that videos utilizing CapCut templates often receive a boost from the algorithm. The exact reason behind this phenomenon remains uncertain, whether it’s due to CapCut being owned by ByteDance and receiving promotional support, or simply because these videos inherently captivate and engage audiences.

Recently, I conducted an experiment on TikTok where I exclusively shared CapCut templates for a week, and the results exceeded my expectations. I will soon share my detailed findings on this blog. What I noticed is that when I use CapCut templates, they frequently garner more shares compared to my regular content. Shares hold significant weight in the TikTok algorithm, indicating that viewers genuinely enjoy the content to the extent that they want to share it with their friends. By leveraging CapCut templates, you have an excellent opportunity to create amusing and relatable content that resonates with your target audience.

Personally, I suspect that CapCut templates also contribute to increased watch time for two reasons. Firstly, most CapCut templates are concise, lasting around six seconds, enabling viewers to quickly consume the entire video without becoming bored. Secondly, due to the familiar format, viewers may be more inclined to watch the video in its entirety, especially when compared to a talking video from an unfamiliar creator that may fail to capture their attention swiftly.

Beyond the benefits associated with the algorithm, CapCut templates serve as a valuable resource for inspiration when you’re facing a creative block. The meme-like format acts as a catalyst to stimulate your imagination, potentially leading you to explore topics outside your usual content. This allows your audience to discover new and intriguing facets of your brand. Moreover, CapCut templates require relatively low effort, making them an excellent addition alongside your more time-consuming videos.

How do I use CapCut templates?

To effectively use CapCut templates, you can begin the process either in CapCut or TikTok, although I personally recommend starting in TikTok. While browsing through videos on your “For You” page (FYP), pay attention to the CapCut templates being used by others. If you find one that aligns with your interests, give it a try!

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use CapCut templates:

1. Make sure you have CapCut installed on your device.

2. When you come across a CapCut template you’d like to try, tap on “CapCut – Try this template” located above the creator’s username.

3. You will be directed to a screen displaying the template, the username of the creator, and the number of times it has been used. Tap on “Use Template in CapCut” at the bottom.

4. This will launch the CapCut app, where you’ll see the template, the creator’s information, the clip’s length, and its usage count. Tap the green “Use template” button at the bottom right.

5. You will be prompted to select a photo or video to pair with the template. Choose your desired image and tap “Preview” at the bottom right.

6. Now you can edit your clip

On the left side, you’ll find options for “Video” and “Text.” Under “Video,” you can adjust the position of the photo you selected. Tap the green “Edit” button in the bottom center. Here, you can choose “Crop” to modify how the image is displayed or “Replace” to try a different image. This part of the process can sometimes be challenging since there is no standardization among user-created templates. Aligning your photo properly may require some trial and error. Note that you can’t move the clip of the person in the template, which might cover up important elements in your image. Keep experimenting with different images or cropping options until you achieve a satisfactory result. Remember that CapCut doesn’t offer photo editing capabilities, so make sure to edit your photo’s exposure, brightness, saturation, etc., before uploading it to the template.

7. Tap on “Text” and then “Edit” to modify the text. This part of the workflow can be a bit cumbersome since CapCut doesn’t allow you to change fonts or colors.

8. When you’re finished editing, tap “Export” in the top right corner. You have the option to download the clip to your device’s camera roll or export it directly to TikTok. It’s recommended to export it directly to TikTok to remove the CapCut watermark.

9. Once your clip is in TikTok, you can add any desired text if you didn’t do so in CapCut.

10. Write a caption, include relevant hashtags, and then either post the video immediately or save it to drafts for sharing later.

How do I know which CapCut templates will go viral?

Determining which CapCut templates will go viral on TikTok can be challenging since the viral nature of content is influenced by various factors such as trends, timing, creativity, and audience preferences. However, here are some strategies that may increase your chances of selecting templates with viral potential:

Pay attention to the latest trends and challenges on TikTok. Templates associated with trending concepts or challenges tend to have a higher chance of going viral. Explore popular hashtags, keep an eye on the For You page, and follow TikTok influencers to stay in the loop.

2. Analyze template usage and engagement

Take note of the templates that have already gained significant usage and engagement. Look for templates that have been widely adopted and have generated a positive response from the TikTok community. Templates with a large number of uses and high engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares) might indicate their viral potential.

3. Consider the template’s entertainment value

Opt for templates that are entertaining, engaging, and visually appealing. Templates that evoke emotions, spark curiosity, or elicit laughter often have better chances of going viral. Look for templates that have elements of surprise, humor, or relatability.

4. Experiment with variations and personalization

While using popular templates can increase your visibility, adding your unique touch or personalizing the template can make it stand out. Explore ways to bring your own creativity and style to the template, whether it’s through the choice of background, editing techniques, or incorporating your own content alongside the template.

6. Be timely and relevant

Keep an eye on current events, pop culture, and viral topics. Incorporating these elements into a template can increase its relevance and likelihood of going viral. Timely and relatable content tends to resonate more with TikTok users.

In conclusion, CapCut templates are pre-designed video editing templates that can be used in the CapCut app, which is a popular video editing tool. CapCut offers a variety of templates that can help you create visually appealing and engaging videos for platforms like TikTok.
