The release of the results would increase the prospects for admission seekers who took the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as candidates with pending results.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is scheduled to release the results of the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) on Monday, 7 August. Moyosola Adesina, the Head of the Public Affairs unit of the examination body, hinted at this development in a notice shared with PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday.
Hope rises for admission seekers
This release brings hope to admission seekers as it will enable candidates who sat the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) without their SSCE results to be considered for admission into tertiary institutions. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted the UTME for admission seekers nationwide in May, and many tertiary institutions have already started their admission processes.
2023 SSCE
A total of 1,621,853 candidates from 20,851 government and private schools registered for the SSCE, which took place over a period of seven weeks, from 8 May to 23 June.
The Head of Nigeria’s office (HNO) of WAEC, Patrick Areghan, had previously stated in May that the results of the candidates would be released 45 days after the last paper was conducted, following the examination body’s practice.
As per the update provided to The Sun Newspaper, the marking of 76 subjects consisting of 197 papers was completed on Tuesday, 1 August, at 85 marking venues and one electronic marking centre. Many examiners finished their marking process two or three days ahead of the deadline.
