The Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a prestigious entrance scholarship available to qualified students who have been offered admission to UBC. This merit-based scholarship is awarded only once and recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic abilities and active engagement beyond their studies.
Upon receiving an offer of admission to UBC, you will be automatically considered for the University of British Columbia OIS Awards, which are merit-based scholarships. The selection process takes into account your academic accomplishments and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the University of British Columbia OIS Awards, you must:
- Be a new student at UBC, entering directly from secondary school or post-secondary institutions (university or college).
- Hold international student status and study at UBC with a valid Canadian study permit (student visa). Note that changes in your citizenship status may impact your scholarship eligibility.
- Demonstrate exceptional academic achievements and active participation in extracurricular activities.
- Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
- Submit your application to UBC by January 15.

How to Apply
By applying to UBC before January 15, you will automatically be considered for the OIS Award. Scholarship decisions are typically made between mid-March and the end of April each year.
