The leaders of South Korea and Japan will hold a meeting to discuss the issues of North Korea and China.
Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, is anticipated to visit South Korea and meet with President Yoon Suk Yeol on either May 7 or 8. Their discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation regarding North Korea in advance of the upcoming Hiroshima G7 summit, as reported by Japan’s Kyodo news agency. When asked about the potential summit, Kishida stated that nothing has been confirmed yet.
The relationship between Japan and South Korea has been strained for a long time due to issues such as wartime compensation and trade. However, in recent months, they have been working towards improving ties due to North Korea’s frequent missile launches and China’s growing influence on the global stage.
During a recent visit by Yoon to Washington, U.S. President Joe Biden commended Yoon’s efforts to improve relations with Japan. According to Japanese media reports, Biden, Yoon, and Kishida are expected to meet on the sidelines of the Hiroshima summit.
