Police arrest notorious cultists in Rivers, Bayelsa States

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, has made a significant announcement regarding the arrest of a notorious cultist who had been causing terror in the state.

The arrest of this cult leader, known as General 2man, was the result of a series of operations conducted by the police to target their hideouts.

General 2man, the leader of the Green Landers cult group, was taken into custody after surrendering his arms and ammunition following repeated raids on his gang’s hideouts. Hailing from Ogbogolo community in Ahoada West Local Government Area, he was responsible for disturbing the peace of the community.

The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang. During their operations, the police also arrested a suspect linked to the murder of one Josephine Ibiju and busted a drug peddling syndicate in Rumuokwuta, Obio/Akpor LGA, leading to the recovery of drugs, weapons, and other items.

Cultism remains a longstanding menace in Nigerian society, with various fraternities operating in different parts of the country. The government continues its efforts to combat cultist activities, which have resulted in loss of lives, property, and injuries from violent attacks.

In 2022, the BBC produced a documentary highlighting the “Black Axe” confraternity as the “deadliest cult group in Nigeria.” While it received praise from some quarters, others believed it might inadvertently empower the group by giving them global recognition of their might.
