The Federal Government has appointed fourteen (14) new principals for some of the nation’s Unity schools.
The appointments were made following a rigorous oral interview stage, during which 37 directors who were vying for the positions were screened out.
Out of the 65 directors who took the computer-based test as part of the selection process, 14 failed and were disqualified, while 51 directors successfully passed.
The memo from the Federal Ministry of Education, signed by the Director of Human Resources, David Gende, stated that the appointed principals will undergo induction/orientation before their deployment, with the date to be communicated later.
In a separate development, the registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Wushishi, emphasized the commitment of the commission to maintaining the integrity of examinations across the country and preventing malpractice.
He stated that measures have been put in place to create awareness about the consequences of malpractice and that internal monitors are being used to oversee the exams.
The registrar also acknowledged economic challenges affecting registration numbers for the ongoing SSCE exams, but noted that state governments are responding positively to settle their debts with NECO.
